Stain Removal

Before trying to remove dirty marks from your carpet, it is important to know whether it is a stain or general soiling. Staining is the discolouration of carpet fibres caused when pigment from a substance like coffee or red wine leaves residue in the carpet after spill removal.

Follow these simple steps to remove most common household spills from your Irvine Flooring solution dyed nylon carpet.

  • Remove as much of the spill as possible by carefully scraping off with a spoon, vacuum up any dry soil residue or blot with a clean white cotton cloth if the stain is wet.
  • Immediately wet a white cotton cloth with cold water, wring it out, fold into quarters and press it down firmly over the stain. Leave the cotton cloth to dry - do NOT lift the cloth up, to have a look, until the cloth is dry. When the cloth has dried, repeat the process with a fresh damp cloth until the spill doesn't give off any more dirt.

If a stain is present after spill removal, use a James Cleaning stain removal solution. Click on the link and follow the stain removal guidelines for the type of stain you have.

It is important that you test any stain removal product for colour fastness in an inconspicuous area first.

If you have Irvine Flooring Premium Solution Dyed Nylon carpet, you can use a mix of household bleach and water to remove stubborn stains by following these simple steps:

  • Mix a fresh solution of 50% clear household bleach and 50% water in a spray bottle.
  • Remove as much of the spill as possible by carefully scraping off with a spoon, vacuum up any dry soil residue or blot with a clean white cotton cloth if the stain is wet.
  • Spray the solution directly on to the stain being careful not to over-wet the area.
  • Blot the carpet surface with a clean white cotton cloth, working from the outside of the stain to the centre and repeat until the stain disappears. Never scrub or rub the carpet during stain removal.
  • Spray with clean water and blot until all the bleach solution is removed.
  • To absorb any remaining moisture, use a clean, dry white cotton cloth folded into quarters and place over the stain. Weight the cloth down with a heavy, non-staining object.
  • When completely dry, vacuum the area to restore the pile texture.

Certain stains may reappear as a result of "wicking". If after repeating the stain removal procedure the stain continues to reappear, contact a professional carpet cleaner for assistance.
